Good bye 2009!

As I wait for the new year, I reflect on the things that had happened in 2009.

1. 2009 was the year I realized that any electronics MNC could potentially go bust when the market moves below certain levels. Having a long term career as an engineer in the semiconductor industry is very very risky if the entire world stops buying electronics during a recession. Long gone are the days where I can comfortably say that I could work in a company til I retire. The fact is, sometimes, the company could actually retire before I could! 2009 was the year that kept me on my toes. The fear of loosing my job has changed me. I am now very very open to other ways of making a living and so, on a part time basis, I am constantly reading about business and finance.

2. On the upside, 2009 was the only year that the housing loan interest rates were the lowest in 30 years! I hope you managed to snag up a few rental properties of your own :)

3. 2009 was the year that my internet marketing project worked. Just today, I received another payment of commissions from my merchant. I hope my sites will continue to cashflow for years to come. I wish someday that I could use my internet marketing cash to fund some properties just like a couple of my friends a doing. I'm so far away that I really need to catch up. Need to work harder next year!

5. Oh yeah how can I forget? I managed to complete a half marathon in KL and Penang this year! Too bad I couldn't make it for the Singapore one. But next year, I shall make it a point to run 3 half marathons. Just for the heck of it :)

6. Financially, I've seen alot this year. I've seen colleagues loosing hundreds of thousands in the share market...paper loss that is. But that is scary enough.

Anyway, I look forward to 2010. A new year with new challenges ahead. Will we ever get out of debt? We shall see. We shall see.
