The Melbourne Shuffle (also known as Rocking ) is a rave and club dance that originated in the late 1980s in the underground rave music scene in Melbourne, Australia. The basic movements in the dance are a fast heel-and-toe action with a style suitable for various types of electronic music. Some variants incorporate arm movements.People who dance the shuffle are often referred to as rockers, due in part to the popularity of shuffling to rock music in the early 90's.

The origins of the name "Melbourne Shuffle" are unknown. The term was first brought to the public attention by Sonic Animation's Rupert Keiller during a TV interview in Sydney. The Age referred to it as looking like "a cross between the chicken dance and a foot stomping robot" to the untrained eye,[1] but locals simply called it "stomping".

Some dancers sprinkle talcum powder or apply liquid to the floor beneath their feet to help them glide more easily, some including 360 degree spins or jumps into their moves.[1] Others apply smooth plastic tape to the soles of their shoes.

Originally consisting of the "T-Step" combined with arm movements, during recent years the "Running Man" has also been adopted into many common styles, accentuating the new focus of keeping time with the beat. The "Running man" involves a stomp forward followed by a single or double hop backwards with the same foot, the other foot repeats the action leading to a running-on-the-spot motion. The "T-Step" is a fast sideways heel-toe motion on one foot twisting at the ankle. The dance is embellished by spins, arm pumps, slides, and kicks.

Hardstyle is performed to music that features a fast 4/4 beat (also known as a 'four-on-the-floor' beat), and is normally accompanied by a heavy, booming (or hollow) bass. For this reason, many people in the US and Europe incorrectly refer to the "shuffle" as just "hardstyle". This is despite the term "hardstyle" being an umbrella term for many different rave dances globally, as well as a genre of electronic music. Hardstyle is a rave dance, while most other styles were typically performed in clubs and dance parties.

What Next?

The world has four major crises brewing. They are:

China’s economy is slowing

I predict by summer or late fall of this year, China’s bubble, which is caused by too much money, will begin to burst.

China has too many brand new, empty buildings. These are buildings built by speculators looking to flip and get rich—and they’re still building. Also, China is now importing more than they are exporting, just like America.

When China slows, the world will slow down.

Revolution in Middle East

The “Twitter” and “Facebook” revolutions in oil-producing countries are keeping the world markets on edge. While most people hope for democracy to win, right now, it’s too early to call who will take over the world’s gas station.

The medical disaster in America

This year, the first of 75 million baby-boomers began turning 65. The number of senior baby-boomers increases by 10,000 new people a day. As I write, Social Security is an estimated $15 trillion, Bernie-Madoff-type Ponzi Scheme. Medicare is an estimated $60 trillion Ponzi scheme. These are what are commonly referred to as unfunded liabilities. In other words, they’re promises we can’t keep.

Simply said, the US government cannot keep its promises to retiring baby-boomers, nor can it afford to pay its bills. If the world didn’t allow the US to print money by selling US bonds, we would be collapsing today.

Today, as the US goes broke, Republicans and Democrats fight in Washington. This is a smoke screen to make it look like they are doing something, but really they’re doing nothing—except working to be reelected.

And as long as the Fed continues to print, which I believe they will, I’m dumping more dollars into tangible assets. I don’t trust the US government, their debt, or their dollars. And I’m not the only one.

PIMCO, one of the most respected bond funds has reportedly stopped acquiring US Bonds. This is not a good sign. If the private bond market investors stop buying US bonds, then the Federal Reserve will have to open their checkbook and buy bonds with fake money. This will mean higher taxes, and inflation in areas such as food and gasoline.

As America struggles with its debt, it is deflation, not inflation that is the most frightening of scenarios. For those of you who have read Conspiracy of the Rich, you know that inflation is relatively easy to cure. It is deflation, which leads to depression that frightens the Fed the most. That is why I believe they will continue to print more and more money and push for inflation, making dollars worth less and less.

The Feds current fiscal policy, Quantitative Easing 2 (QE2, or printing money), ends in June. If the S&P 500 drops, the stock market will beg the Fed to initiate QE3—more printed money. If that happens, gold and silver will continue to be good investments.

As much as I hate paying higher prices, I will buy more silver and some gold. Gold under $1,400 an ounce and silver under $33 an ounce will sound like bargains by 2012. As much as I hate paying such high prices, gold and silver are better than dollars.

Also, I’ll continue to invest in real estate. For instance, Kim, Ken McElroy, and I are flying to San Antonio, Texas in the coming weeks to inspect a 680-unit apartment complex that we just bought. With home prices continuing to drop—they dropped 6.8 percent in February alone—rental apartments become an even better buy because people are renting instead of buying homes.

The Japan earthquake and tsunami

To me, the biggest worry is nuclear power.

In my book, Rich Brother Rich Sister, my sister, who is a nun with the Dalai Lama, and I write about seeing an atomic bomb explosion as little kids while living in Hawaii. Seeing that explosion hundreds of miles away on Christmas Island affected our lives dramatically.

The mushroom cloud looked like someone poured blood into the sky. For hours, my mom, dad, brother, and sisters sat in our front yard and watched the sky go from bright, blood red to dying, blood purple.

I’ve been anti-nuclear power ever since, for many reasons. Two of the main reasons I’m against nuclear power are:

It’s expensive.
Disposal-nuclear waste has to be buried for thousands of years before it’s safe again.

Today, the countries with nuclear power pay billions of dollars to government contractors to bury nuclear waste in “safe” holes in the ground.

Personally, I’m confident there’ll be technological breakthroughs in a few years in solar and wind power that will make oil, coal, and nuclear power obsolete and expensive. That is why my only investments in the stock market are investments in alternative energy companies with promising new technology.

Imagine a world where not only energy costs go down but pollution and environmental damage do also. Cheap and clean energy will open a whole new world of prosperity.

“You may say I’m a dreamer” as the Beatles song goes, “But I’m not the only one.” With cheap clean energy, which is coming, we will emerge into a whole new world of prosperity.

Japan’s tragedy should be a wake-up call for the world. It’s time we take control of our future, not allowing the mega-corporations that profit from energy to suck money out of our pockets.

As long as the mega-corporations control where our cash flows to, obviously to them, we will have rioting in the streets, environmental disasters, and rising poverty and hunger as prices increase.

If we learn from the Japanese crisis, cheap-to-nearly free energy, especially solar, will allow the world to evolve closer to John Lennon’s dream described in his song, “Imagine.”

I’ve always been a dreamer, but I’m also realistic. Personally I have zero-to-little faith that our political leaders are capable of solving the financial and environmental problems ahead of us. We must do it.

That is why I believe your investment into your own financial education, education not found in schools, is essential to staying alive for the next ten years.

Throw a boomerang.

I know this sounds weird but I've never thrown a boomerang in my life.

I remember when I was a kid, grandma said these things could hurt people. So I never really experimented. We always had relatives and friends going to Australia and the ONLY thing they'd ever bring back is a boomerang. But these things are just kept in the "door gifts" cabinet for decades. Things that we never really throw away you know.

Anyway.

I'll attempt to throw a real boomerang this coming weekend. I hope it's not a danger to the public to play with these things.

For a start, I think I'll learn how the Aussies do it on Youtube first.

Stuff to check before I attempt this dangerous stunt:

1. Must have a field with at least 1KM radius. (Well the furthest a boomerang could go is 500 meters according to Guiness Book of Records) Yes I did my intense research.
2. No people or objects around
3. Never thow it horizontally or it'll swing back to slash my jugular. (One of my biggest fears)
4. Check for strong winds and direction of wind.

I remember listening to Hitz.fm when I was in high school. Always tuned in to the morning show with Lil Kev and Fly guy. I have to say, they were the most entertaining duo of all time in local radio. No doubt.

Here's the latest news about Lil Kev. Little man, big money:

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular deejay Kevin Arokiasamy, better-known as “Lil’ Kev” who formerly co-hosted the Morning Show, won his breach of contract lawsuit against Astro’s Airtime Management & Programming Sdn Bhd.

High Court Judicial Commissioner Justice Rosilah Yop awarded a declaration to Lil’ Kev that a letter by Airtime Management dated Aug 28, 2003, meant that the defendant had violated the terms of an agrement.

Justice Rosilah issued a declaration that the violation of the terms meant that he could terminate the agreement and claim for damages.

She declared that the letter and its order was a modification to the terms of the agreement which required his consent.

The judge has ordered that damages be assessed after hearing evidence from Lil’ Kev and three witnesses of the defendant.

In his suit filed on Dec 15, 2004, Lil’ Kev claimed that he had entered into an agreement with the defendant on Aug 29, 2002 where he consented to serve its radio station hitz.fm for two years.

His salary for the duration of the contract was RM24,000 per month for the first year and RM26,000 each month the second year.

He said the dispute occurred when he was directed to transfer to the afternoon shift which he felt violated the terms of the agreement.

Lil’ Kev has been co-hosting the Morning Show since 1997.

In a statement of defence filed on Feb 21, 2005, the defendant stated that although it reserved the right to modify, add to or eliminate all or any part of benefits at any time, it had offered relevant incentives to Lil’ Kev.

Speaking to reporters later, his lawyer Isa Aziz Ibrahim said the defendant had no right to transfer his client to the afternoon shift as it violated the terms of the agreement.

When contacted by The Star, Lil’ Kev, 39, said he was relieved by the judgment.

“Normally, corporate companies are not favourable to us. It should protect the talent,” he said.

He said the judgment would be “a sort of protection for deejays so that they will not be easily pushed around”.

To date, smart phones are just expensive toys. They do not have the capability of running Windows 7. You can't really run "real" apps if you know what I mean. I forsee one day, I could play a full fletch Starcraft II on a handphone. ...I have a dream that one day, a handphone would have an Intel I Quad core inside....Maybe that would take another decade.

I stil prefer my 10 year old Nokia 3XXX that could just make phone calls and send messages.

1. Be a full time triathon athelete because in a depresssion, there's probably no jobs. I can finally fulfil my lifelong wish of finishing a triathlon. Cos there is nothing else better to do in a depression.

3. Write a book.

4. Hang out in church full time and give tuition to orphans. (Like I said, there would not be any jobs left in a depression)

WASHINGTON (AFP) - – Economists peddling dire warnings that the world's number one economy is on the brink of collapse, amid high rates of unemployment and a spiraling public deficit, are flourishing here.

The guru of this doomsday line of thinking may be economist Nouriel Roubini, thrust into the forefront after predicting the chaos wrought by the subprime mortgage crisis and the collapse of the housing bubble.

"The US has run out of bullets," Roubini told an economic forum in Italy earlier this month. "Any shock at this point can tip you back into recession."

But other economists, who have so far stayed out of the media limelight, are also proselytizing nightmarish visions of the future.

Boston University professor Laurence Kotlikoff, who warned as far back as the 1980s of the dangers of a public deficit, lent credence to such dark predictions in an International Monetary Fund publication last week.

He unveiled a doomsday scenario -- which many dismiss as pure fantasy -- of an economic clash between superpowers the United States and China, which holds more than 843 billion dollars of US Treasury bonds.

"A minor trade dispute between the United States and China could make some people think that other people are going to sell US treasury bonds," he wrote in the IMF's Finance & Development review.

"That belief, coupled with major concern about inflation, could lead to a sell-off of government bonds that causes the public to withdraw their bank deposits and buy durable goods."

Kotlikoff warned such a move would spark a run on banks and money market funds as well as insurance companies as policy holders cash in their surrender values.

"In a short period of time, the Federal Reserve would have to print trillions of dollars to cover its explicit and implicit guarantees. All that new money could produce strong inflation, perhaps hyperinflation," he said.

"There are other less apocalyptic, perhaps more plausible, but still quite unpleasant, scenarios that could result from multiple equilibria."

According to a poll by the StrategyOne Institute published Friday, some 65 percent of Americans believe there will be a new recession.

And the view that America is on a decline seems rather well ingrained in many people's minds supported by 65 percent of people questioned in a Wall Street Journal/NBC poll published last week.

"It is true: Today's economic problems are structural, not cyclical," argued New York Times editorial writer David Brooks.

He said the United Sates is losing its world dominance much in the same way the British Empire began to crumble more than a century ago.

"We are in the middle of yet another jobless recovery. Wages have been lagging for decades. Our labor market woes are deep and intractable," Brooks said.

Nobel Economics Prize winner Paul Krugman also voiced concern about the fate of the fragile economic recovery if voters return the Republicans to political power.

"It's hard to overstate how destructive the economic ideas offered earlier this week by John Boehner, the House minority leader, would be if put into practice," he wrote in a recent editorial.

"Fewer jobs and bigger deficits -- the perfect combination."

The Wall Street Journal, usually more favorable to Boehner's call for tax cuts, ran a commentary from another Nobel Prize-winning economist -- Vernon Smith -- that failed to provide much comfort for readers.

"This fact needs to be confronted: We are almost surely in for a long slog," Smith wrote.

And it seems such pessimism has even filtered into the IMF, which warned on Friday that high levels of national debt and a still shaky financial sector threaten to derail the global economic recovery.

"The foreclosure backlog in US property markets is large and growing, in part due to the recent expiration of the home buyer's tax credit. When realized, this could further depress real estate prices."

This could lead to "disproportionate losses" for small and medium-sized banks, which could in turn "precipitate a loss of market confidence in the recovery," the IMF warned.

SEPANG: Farmer H. Kanapiraan was devastated after seven of his cows were killed by lightning.

“The cows were grazing under an oil palm tree at about 7.30am when there was a flash of light.

“I rushed to the site and found the cattle lying dead around the tree,” he said.

Kanapiraan, 28, was planning to sell the cows during the Hari Raya period. They were grazing some 2km from his farm shed at Bedford Estate, Tanjung Sepat here.

He later lodged a report at the Tanjung Sepat police station.

Kanapiraan said he was hoping to make some money by selling the cows on Friday.

“This is the second time such an incident occurred. Two months ago, a couple of my cows died in the same manner.

“The seven cows were worth about RM15,000. Now, I just have nine cows left.

“I hope I can secure some financial help to purchase more calves,” he added.

According to a veterinarian, one cow was struck by lightning while the others standing in the wet ground nearby died through conductivity.

He said each spark of lightning can affect an area of a few kilometres.

You see, it never ceases to amaze me that some UK graduates still struggle financially.

I have a UK trained colleague who can't stop complaining about his work load and how low his salary is. He says his house loan is too much to bare and he can't upgrade his car because he just had a baby. He can't even set aside money for any investments.

Maybe just MAYBE he thinks that his house and cars are assets.

He said his wife, also a UK grad had problems looking for a job back here in Melaka. Our company offered her a two year contract but she refused to join us as she was afraid that the job is not guaranteed and she would have to look for another job when the contract is over.

I mean come on. What went wrong in the UK? Aren't you supposed to be good enough to sustain yourself?? What happened to all the confidence of ruling the world when you stepped out of the university??

that there are some people out there who still think that an internet business is a scam business.

See, I was talking to very senior engineer who's now heading the training department in our company. (He left his old job because his old company closed down on him) .

He asked me about what I do in my free time and I said I've been trying to build an internet business.

He said....."oh internet business....are they scams"?

Imagine....words like this coming from a supposedly tech savvy engineer. I don't blame him. He's a baby boomer ( born in the 60s). He was never exposed to the internet like anyone from Gen X (born in the 70s) and Gen Y (born in the 80s).
So it's not easy for baby boomers to grasps the idea of an internet business.

I mean come on. Every MBA class teaches e-commerce as a core subject these days.

This is not the end of it. I have even met lecturers from the IT department and Finance department who also think that internet businesses are not profitable businesses...

The problem lies in the generation gap. If you have read Outliers by Malcom Galdwell, the idea of the old generation not being able able to adapt to new technology was because they were never introduced to technology in a very young age...so it's not NATURAL for them to think that the internet is the best tool there is.

I've got another example. I've met people who work in Multinational firms dealing with IT and Operating Systems who tell me that they don't trust online banking.....geez.

So what's the point of this rant? Nothing really, I just like to say things that are bugging me that's all. It's just frustrating that people don't get me sometimes when everything around them is so obvious.

SUNGAI PETANI: Four siblings who allegedly ate soil for a week to stave off hunger are undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of a hospital here.

They had vomited and complained of stomach pain earlier.

The girls, aged seven, eight, nine and 10, were taken to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital after one of them revealed their condition to Jerai MIC chairman R. Supramaniam last Friday.

The matter came to light when the eldest girl was taken by her 70-year-old grandfather to a medical camp organised by the division at Kampung Padang Lembu, some 20km from here.

The girl suddenly vomited when the doctor was about to examine her.

Supramaniam said he was about to send the girl to the hospital when she told him her three younger sisters at home were also in pain.

“She told me that they had eaten soil as they were very hungry and there was not enough food for them,” he added.

Supramaniam said he visited their house and found the girls groaning in pain.

“They were weak and could barely move,” he added.

The children’s mother, who had just given birth 10 days ago, and their father were at home then.

Supramaniam said he then took the children to the hospital and they were admitted to the intensive care unit.

“I was told by a doctor who examined them that the children must undergo blood transfusion since they had eaten soil for a week.

“The girls are in stable condition but have to be warded for a week,” he said.

It is learnt that their father, who is in his 30s, was unemployed and the family relied on food donated by neighbours.

However, the amount of food was insufficient to feed the family.

Supramaniam said he would monitor the health condition of the children and assist the family.

PETALING JAYA: Lower prices of high-definition TVs (HDTV) are helping to fuel the sale of expensive Blu-Ray discs, with movie pirates also cashing in on the latest craze.

Many video stores have set aside a special section catering just for Blu-Ray titles, with the illegal traders following suit by openly displaying pirated Blu-Ray versions of the titles in their outlets.

An original Blu-Ray disc is priced at between RM89 and RM169, with pirated versions sold at between RM30 and RM40, compared to RM19 to RM39 for original DVDs, and RM5 to RM10 for pirated DVDs.

Box-office hits like Iron Man 2, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Transformers, Clash of the Titans and Avatar are among the latest titles to be produced in Blu-Ray format.

A Blu-Ray disc stores high-definition videos to provide a thrilling experience for the viewer in terms of audio-visual quality, with a maximum pixel resolution of 1920Ã—1080.

Many studios have announced that they would be releasing new feature films on Blu-Ray, with a slate of catalogue titles released every month.

“Sale of Blu-Ray movies has gone up this year. Customers who buy Blu-Ray are those who really appreciate high definition quality,'' said an EzyVideo outlet manager in Kuala Lumpur.

Prices of HDTVs - LCDs, Plasma and now LED screens - have dropped drastically since its introduction several years ago. A 42-inch branded LCD now retails at about RM2,500, compared to about RM8,000 several years ago.

Also helping to boost Blu-Ray sales are lower prices for Blu-Ray players, which can be bought for as low as RM500 for certain models now, compared to about RM2,000 previously.

An HDTV fan, who only wanted to be known as John, said he would be selective in buying Blu-Ray discs due to the price.

“I will only buy movies in Blu-Ray format if the movie has great special effects,” he said, adding that he had recently spent RM6,000 to buy a branded LCD.

Air steward Mervyn Nakamura complained that Blu-Ray discs were over-priced in Malaysia.

“I haven't bought any pirated copies. If you buy original versions on Amazon.com, they are much cheaper. I go for originals because the visuals are way sharper,'' he added.

What is MY excuse??

You see I kinda retired from running since Dec...I missed the Singapore 1/2 marathon because I didn't collect my running kit on time....that incident was very demotivating and made me slow down for about 3 months. There was a point where I decided to retire from "competitive" running and just stick back to evening jogs...In that short period of time, I gained a couple of kilos.... and my shirts started to shrink or perhaps I'm the one outgrowing my usual size. It's a clear signal that I HAVE to go back to running.

So I decided to train for the KL 10K event that's coming up in June. Been running bout 6 to 7 clicks with the team every Sunday at the botanical gardens. This time the route is much hilly so it's good training for the KL route. It's not easy to wake up at 5.30am on a SUNDAY morning...but ya know, sometimes, ya gotta do what ya gotta do....afterall I've got legs.

So I'll see you guys in KL on June 23rd ya?

KOTA KINABALU: An 18-year-old National Service trainee has given birth to a healthy baby boy in a toilet at Camp Ovai in Papar, some 30km from the city.

The birth was discovered by fellow trainees who heard the infant crying in the toilet at about 2.30am yesterday.

Papar district police chief Deputy Supt Nik Zaidi Nik Zakaria said upon hearing the baby's cry, the fellow trainees entered the toilet and found the baby still covered in blood and the umbilical cord attached.

He said the trainee and her 2.6kg baby were taken to the Papar district hospital where they were reported to be in good condition.

DSP Nik Zaidi said initial investigations showed that the trainee from the interior Keningau district had been in a relationship with a 20-year-old man from her hometown.

The trainee had been at the camp since March.

DSP Nik Zaidi said the National Service authorities should consider requiring all future female trainees to undergo pregnancy tests to avoid any untoward incidents.

GEORGE TOWN: Intel Inc, the world’s largest chip maker, plans to close the assembly, test and development unit at its Kulim Hi-Tech Park (KHTP) facility within a year.

Intel sources told StarBiz that four senior executives made the announcement on Tuesday to about 500 workers who would be affected by the move.

Three of them were vice-presidents in charge of technology and manufacturing – Robin A. Martin, Babak Sabi and Nasser Bozorg-Grayeli. The fourth was director of sort test technology development Navid Shahriari.

According to the sources, Intel would gradually close the unit over the next 12 months.

The work done at the KHTP facility would be transferred back to the US to be close to Intel’s wafer fabrication plant in Arizona.

The affected workers would be redeployed for other job functions at the KHTP and Penang facilities.

Sources said the affected staff included managers and engineers.

The assembly, test, and development unit in KHTP is responsible for developing, testing, and packaging chipsets.

At press time, no Intel official was available for comment.

Last December, Intel Malaysia officially opened its US$230mil Kulim Microprocessor and Chipset Operations facility at KHTP.

The facility is earmarked by Intel as an important focus for its next-generation 32-nanometer processors and chipsets.

To date, Intel has invested more than US$3.7bil in Malaysia.

SHAH ALAM: The friend of 15-year-old Aminulrasyid Amzah who was in the car with him when they were pursued by police insisted there was never a situation where they tried to ram down a policeman.

Speaking to reporters yesterday, Azamuddin Omar, 15, said he and Aminulrasyid were running away from a gang of motorcyclists when they overtook a police car.

He said police started shooting at them but they drove on because Aminulrasyid wanted to get home.

He said after a bullet hit Aminulrasyid’s head, the car crashed into a wall.

I guess the problem now is not the legal driving age but the reason why the police had to shoot the under aged driver....

Flash was created during the PC era – for PCs and mice. Flash is a successful business for Adobe, and we can understand why they want to push it beyond PCs. But the mobile era is about low power devices, touch interfaces and open web standards – all areas where Flash falls short.

The avalanche of media outlets offering their content for Apple’s mobile devices demonstrates that Flash is no longer necessary to watch video or consume any kind of web content. And the 200,000 apps on Apple’s App Store proves that Flash isn’t necessary for tens of thousands of developers to create graphically rich applications, including games.

New open standards created in the mobile era, such as HTML5, will win on mobile devices (and PCs too). Perhaps Adobe should focus more on creating great HTML5 tools for the future, and less on criticizing Apple for leaving the past behind.

KUALA LUMPUR: A 3-year-old girl was battered to death yesterday, the third such case reported in Selangor since February.

Doctors found at least 30 bruises on her body when she was taken to a government clinic in Serdang near here yesterday morning.

The girl was believed to have been dead for at least two hours before her body was stashed inside a cupboard at an apartment in Taman Seri Serdang.She was believed to have been punched, beaten and stepped on.Initial checks also revealed that she could have been slammed onto a hard surface as there were injuries on the forehead.

The victim's stepfather and mother, aged 27 and 24 respectively, have been detained by police to facilitate investigations. The case has been classified as murder.

Selangor deputy Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Khaw Kok Chin said the girl was taken to the clinic at 7.45am by her stepfather.

"The man claimed that he found his stepdaughter unconscious inside a cupboard and rushed her to the clinic where she was pronounced dead."

It is learnt that the stepfather was formerly working as a mechanic but has been unemployed for several months while the woman is a housewife."We are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of death," Khaw said.

It is believed that the victim had been abused for more than a month as some neighbours said they had heard her crying."There are reports that the victim may have been assaulted and abused on a daily basis," Khaw said.A neighbour, Shamsul Madi, 30, said he could hear the screams and cries of a little girl in his apartment.

"Her cries would normally be heard late at night although there were times when it could be heard in the wee hours of the morning," he said.

"I always felt uncomfortable and wondered where the cries came from," he said outside his unit yesterday.

It is learnt that the victim had been placed under the care of a nanny before being returned to her mother.

The mother, a divorcee, also has a 3-month-old infant. In February, 3-year-old Syafia Humairah Sahari was allegedly battered to death by her mother's boyfriend in Kuala Kubu Baru.

Taxi driver Mohd Fazli Azri Jamil, 28, was arrested and charged with Syafia's murder.

In March, Haresvarra Karigalan, 16 months old, was allegedly abused and murdered by his former babysitter's husband at a playground in Kayu Ara, Damansara.

The suspect, lorry attendant M. Rajamorgan, 33, was later charged with the killing of Haresvarra.

TAMPIN: A 9-month-old baby choked on a fish ball and died while being fed by a caretaker at a nursery in Jalan Cantik near the Tampin Hospital yesterday.

Wan Nur Alif Wan Arif Fadhla was sent by his parents to the nursery at 7.30am, but two hours later, he was believed to have choked on the fish ball the size of an adult's thumb.

He was immediately rushed to the hospital some 50 metres away but was pronounced dead on arrival.The baby's father, Wan Arif Fadhla Wan Yusof, 41, said he received a call from his wife,

Nur Azita Ibrahim, 31, at about 11.15am, informing him of the incident."My wife is a school teacher and she called me from the school, saying that our son had been admitted to the hospital.

"When I arrived at the hospital, I was told that my son had died. He had choked on a fish ball and was unable to breathe," said Wan Arif Fadhla, a civil servant.

He said he was very disappointed that the nursery staff had not cut fish ball into small pieces before feeding it to Wan Nur Alif. Wan Arif Fadhla said he had lodged a report at the Tampin police station.

Wan Nur Alif will be buried at the Muslim cemetery in Kampung Pulau Kerengga in Marang, Terangganu.

Tampin police chief Superintendent Wooi Hooi Cheng said the nursery staff would be questioned pertaining to the incident.When contacted, an officer of a district Welfare Department said a probe would be conducted.The officer also said the nursery had been in operation for many years.

It's a damn good movie. Reminds me of the rush I get from playing with firecrackers when I was little.

A seven-month-old girl survived for three days alone with a bullet in her chest after being shot by her parents as part of a suicide pact over their fears about global warming.

Francisco Lotero, 56, and Miriam Coletti, 23, shot their daughter and her toddler brother before killing themselves.

Their son Francisco, two, died instantly after being hit in the back.

However, their unnamed daughter cheated death after the bullet from her father's handgun missed her vital organs.

Police were alerted by worried neighbours who discovered the massacre three days after the shooting and the girl was taken to hospital.

The youngster is recovering in hospital in the town of Goya in the northern Argentine province of Corrientes, where doctors say she is out of danger.

Her parents said they feared the effects of global warming in a suicide note discovered by police.
